Yanagibashi Central Market, a commercial wholesale market, has been supplying restaurants in the Tokai region since 1910.
More than 400 shops and stalls gather around the market, and is said to be the biggest private market in Japan.
The main part of the market is in the Marunaka Shokuhin Center with about 50 stalls in it.
They specializes in fresh fish, but also supplies ingredients, meat, vegetables, and other goods.

What is sold is interesting & impressive,
ranging from small silver fish to big ones such as sea bream, yellowtail, eels, lobsters, and many kinds of clams along with abalone, brought in from the nearby fishing port of Chita Peninsula, Mikawa Bay, and Ise Bay. There are also tuna, crabs, squids, and others from other regions.

  The market is generally open between 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the morning (frequently closed on Wednesdays). But the first half of the business hours are dedicated for the professional dealers, so visit the market after 8 a.m.
